Buttes New Military Cemetery

This is a concentration cemetery. The majority of graves are from 1917, bu there are some from 1914, 1916 and 1918 as well. There are 2103 Commonwealth servicemen buried or commemorate. 1674 (81%) are unidentified. There are 35 special memorials (unusually these are in the main avenue looking from the War stone to the New Zealand memorial).

The New Zealand Memorial stands at the back. 378 men’s names are inscribed here.

The headstones stand like a Battalion on parade.
