This cemetery was begun by the 1/4th Royal Berkshire Regiment in 1914. Ploegsteert Wood lies behind the cemetery. Ploegsteert (Plugstreet) was the southern point of the Ypres Salient.
One notable young man buried here is Pte Albert Edward French, killed on 15th June 1916, aged 16 years.
