Wytschaete Military Cemetery

This is a concentration cemetery. It was known to the troops as Whitesheet, and smaller battlefield casualties graves were also concentrated here. There are 1002 men buried or commemorated here, of which 673 are unidentified. There are 16 special memorials, and other special memorials which commemorate men known to be buried in other cemeteries but whose graves could not be found. The cemetery also include the 16th Irish Division Memorial – this Division took Wytschaete (now Wijtschate) on 7th June 1917 during the Battle of Messines.
